Field Practical Guide - Planting Perennials

Appropriate Trainers: Production Manager, Crew Leader
Appropriate Locations: Company sandlot, client property, other.

Personal Protection Equipment required:
 
● Ear Plugs
● Safety Glasses
● Gloves
● Work Boots 

Equipment & Tools needed:
● Digging Shovel
● Edging Spade
● Hand Trowel
● Grading Rake
● Garden Hose
● Wheelbarrow

Materials needed:  
● Perennials
● Leafgrow
● Mulch 

Pre-Training Session Preparation:

● Select location for training.
● Schedule training session with student(s).
● Make sure everyone participating has the Personal Protection Equipment.
● Collect and have ready the needed equipment and materials. 

Step 1: Demonstrate 
● Explain the difference between perennials and other plant types.
● Demonstrate the proper size hole and soil mix.
● Demonstrate how to properly install perennials, keeping in mind depth, appearance of perennials, and backfilling.
● Demonstrate proper mulching, watering, and removal of tags.

Step 2: Observe:
● Have the student demonstrate proper use of the equipment back to you.

Step 3: Re-Demonstrate:
● Point out what the student did correctly.
● Demonstrate what the student should improve upon.
